Picture Books
where the wild things are
paper bag princess

Books have always been a huge part of my life.  There are pictures of my parents reading to me before I could even keep my eyes open, followed by an infant me flipping pages unable to read.  Then we would read together and laugh at all the silly things going on in the pictures.  Eventually I learned to how read on my own and it opened up a whole new world!  This year, at school, I'm taking a children's literature class and right now we're looking at picture books.  Some of them I'd never heard of but others were some of my favourites growing up so I thought I would share two of the books I'm studying but that I grew up reading just for fun.

Where the Wild Things Are: I loved this book.  There aren't many words or punctuation for that matter, but it really lets the pictures do all the talking.  The art in this book is the main focal point and before I could read I would flip through the pages just looking at all the details in them. The Paper Bag Princess: Robert Munsch was a favourite in my house.  I think we owned all of his books and they were read so often that I could say the words along with my mom while she read them to me.  We haven't discussed this book yet, so for now it remains an innocent reminder of lying in bed reading with my mom about a little girl who learns that just because he's a prince, doesn't mean he's prince charming.
