DIY Soap with Essential Oils and Dried Flowers

With Mother's Day fast approaching (as in less than a week away!) I thought today would be the perfect day to share a simple DIY gift that mothers everywhere will appreciate. It only requires a few ingredients and about 10 minutes - perfect for people with busy lives but lots of love for their mommas!

This is a bit of cheat as it uses soap that's technically already been made but it still makes for a thoughtful and beautiful gift.

Supplies:

  • Large blocks of soap (I used goats milk soap from Michaels)
  • Essential oils
  • Tiny dried flowers or herbs (I used left overs from this bath soak)
  • Soap molds (I didn't have any so I used egg poachers)
  • Potentially a hammer

To make the custom soaps melt down your block of soap following the instructions on the box.

Once the soap is fully melted use 3-5 drops of each essential oil . (I used a citrus blend and peppermint to give the soap a fresh citrusy minty smell)

To create the embedded look, put the dried flowers and herbs into the bottom of the egg poacher and pour the soap over top. The flowers and herbs will float around and spread themselves throughout the soap. For the one with herbs and flowers only on top, poured in the melted soap and sprinkle the flowers and herbs on top.

Place the soap in the fridge or freezer for 10-15 minutes or until hardened and cooled then begin the process of getting them out of the molds. Two of mine popped out easily once I'd gone around the edge with a knife but one was super stubborn and would not come out. So out came the hammer...

Have you got your mom a Mother's Day gift yet? Do you buy or make your gifts?
